Shiatsu for Health

    About Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit. As a form of massage it is unlike Swedish or Western massage techniques in many ways. Most distinctly, rather than using oils and lotions to stroke and rub the skin and soft tissue, Shiatsu is done through light clothing, using firm, rhythmic pressure from my hands, thumbs and fingers.

The basic intention of Western massage is to increase circulation of blood and lymph fluid and relax muscular tension. The same effects may be achieved with Shiatsu. In addition, much like Acupuncture, Shiatsu seeks to help the individual regain balance within the meridians, channels that carry Ki (life energy). A shiatsu session usually leaves the recipient feeling refreshed, invigorated and relaxed at the same time.
